History of SAVYNOMAD

The Family: Savynomad is a group of Grand Harbour residences run by the Testa family in Malta. Over decades, key members of the family have travelled on work and leisure and stayed in accommodation in several cities across 5 continents. They have grown to appreciate the real requirements of excellent guest service. It has become their strong passion to ensure that their expectations of excellence are delivered to their dear guests in Malta.

The Properties: A Journey Through History

Savynomad properties date back to the 1600s, originally constructed under the architectural expertise of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem. These historic buildings have witnessed centuries of significant events—battles, wars, famine, celebrations, and peace. Their walls hold stories of resilience and transformation.

The Valletta property, specifically, was built around 1629 as part of a grand baroque mansion that housed a noble family during the time of the Order of St. John. Over the years, it passed through various hands. However, the devastation of World War II bombings forced many affluent families to flee Valletta, leaving the mansion to be divided into rooms for multiple families and squatters.

In the late 1990s, the Testa family embarked on the restoration journey, acquiring one part of the building after another. After thorough historical research, they carefully restored the property to showcase its original grandeur while creating a stylish, comfortable space for guests. Today, this restored gem stands proudly across from the Grand Harbour, offering travelers both a rich sense of history and a modern, luxurious experience.
